Low Salt Diet Tips for Kids and Adults

By Laura Bankston Our bodies only require a small amount of salt for proper nutrition. But the fact is that we all, including our children, consume way more salt -or rather, the sodium - than we should. Why should we care how much salt (sodium) our children consume? Too much salt (sodium) creates risk for high blood pressure and higher risk for heart attack. And, we women know salt's affect on bloating! The eating habits of our children will continue in their adulthood - and all too frequently less healthy than they were reared when they face busy schedules they haven't expereinced before. What is the recommended daily intake of salt (sodium)? The adult recommended daily intake of sodium in the U.S. is less than 2,400 mg. But, you may be interested to note the the daily recommendation in the UK is less than 1,600 mg! That's quite a difference. So, who do you trust? It doesn't take much shopping and looking at the nutrition information on foods to find that they hold a LOT of sodium. I personally think that the government's recommendation of sodium intake is influenced by prepared food production. I think that they've taken into account how American's can reduce sodium intake without too much impact on the economy. But, then again, depending on which association you check, you'll find different recommendations from them all. There are no intake recommendations for children, but I think that they are important due to the formation of eating habits that I mentioned above. So, what's a person to do? Of course, a person should follow the advice of his/her doctor. But, for me - a healthy adult with great blood pressure - I just use my common sense to guide me. Tips for easy, common sense salt reduction: Use less salt than recommended in a recipe. I've never found it to affect the taste. Most of the time I totally leave it out - especially if it's accompanied by a product that already contains salt/sodium. Don't let your kids salt at the table. The only time salt is on my dinner table is when company is over. I think that my two younger kids don't even realize that people salt their food at the table. If you do decide to let your kids have additional salt - put it on for them. It comes out faster than they realize and it's hard to see! Check the nutrition label of every food that you buy. You will quickly become aware of how much sodium is in cereal, bread, canned goods, bacon, frozen foods, etc. Having an awareness of how much sodium you are consuming will make reduction much easier Buy low-salt or low-sodium versions of a product. Why eat the extra sodium when you'll adjust to the difference in taste (if any) in a few bites? Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Substitute salt with other spices that will give food flavor without adding sodium Forming good "salting" habits now, will make things a lot easier for your children in the future. Do it for them, and you'll be doing it for you too! The Final Solution to Dating

By Steve Sokolowski I run a blog where I discuss the topic of the many games people play in the dating arena. I've posted hundreds of articles, many of which point out many of these troubles. Even if you haven't read the blog, you probably are aware of some of these schemes. While I wish it were easy to sum everything up into one neat, overlying problem, it's not that simple. Let me point out just a few of the issues. For one, there's a definite lack of respect in dating nowadays. People don't even care about their partners enough to treat them as they deserve to be treated. Gossip, ridiculously high expectations, and rejections by ignorance are only some of the examples in this area. Grandparents are always carrying on about how today's generation has such a lack of respect. They talk about how, in their day, people cared about others and banded together through difficult problems. Why do they talk about these things? Because they're right! Through every activity in which I've been involved, I've encountered this problem. I'm tired of working for a hundred hours on a video project when the president of the organization receives but doesn't bother to even reply to your E-Mails asking him to review it. I'm sick of being ostracized from groups because I don't care to participate in their petty disagreements. And I'm exhausted after people expect me to work to death in volunteer organizations! There are always exceptions to this rule, and I'm sure that there are many people who do have a great deal of respect for both their peers and their elders. Unfortunately, the majority, or at least the majority with the most influence, simply don't care. Second, nobody is honest with themselves, let alone anyone else. Dating has turned into a torrent of backstabbing of which even Mark Burnett would be proud. Asking someone out is nearly impossible, because the gossip about it has already spread to a thousand people before you make the move. Then, when a rejection occurs (even if it's not rude), the rejector spreads rumors around to all his/her friends that cause them to completely ignore you, refusing to invite you to parties or even to initiate conversations with you. The biggest insult is that even if you asked point-blank, you'd still never get a truthful answer as to why such harm was directed towards you. As if what occurs after a rejection isn't enough, people attempt to steal others' girl/boyfriends. One day, things are going well, and the next you find yourself wondering what happened to the relationship that was forming - that is, until you notice that person spending a lot of time with who you thought was your best friend. No explanation is offered, not even a "good-bye." Third, people are not looking for someone who spends his or her time working to get ahead instead of getting flat-out drunk, who doesn't curse at or ignore his or her mate, and who actually makes time for whatever is occurring between them (whether it be a full-fledged relationship or just plain sex). They say they're looking for these things, but in reality, they're attracted to people with the attributes described above. "Confidence" is not the answer to the equation. Assuming they both possess the same level of "confidence," the above-described person would win every time over the "warm, caring, and intelligent" (wo)man that people claim is the ideal mate. The list of problems goes on. You might be intrigued to hear that while the problems seem innumerable, I propose they can all be rectified with the simplest of solutions. There's no danger involved, nobody has to lead radical changes, and it doesn't involve an "impossible" fight against biology. I simply propose for men to stop asking women out. Not for the rest of your life, but for just a short time, say, a month. It's not impossible, and you won't have to do it as much after the month passes. While there are a few (rare) exceptions, the vast majority of women don't ask out men 50% of the time. Women do have the advantage in dating, and it's time to level the playing field. Sure, talk with women as friends, and if someone initiates a conversation with you, then definitely reciprocate. However, let the woman ask you out if she's interested, no matter how attractive she is to you. Some women have never asked anyone out in their lives. It's no wonder why these women continually treat men like they're lower beings. If they had to put up with the rejections that most men do all the time, I guarantee that they would have more respect for men. Women would no longer put up with moving from guy to guy based on who was interested in her at the moment. And spreading gossip about potential romantic interests certainly isn't going to help one's prospects. People need to realize that humans, for all their ancestry, are not monkeys or horses or rabbits. They're humans, who can think and act for themselves. Men have so much more capacity in the dating arena than constantly looking for sex at all costs, if they would only exercise it. It's time to stop being prisoners to so-called "biology." Women have the same urges men do, and they should do half the work, not 10% or 20%. There are a lot of "seduction communities" on the Internet that teach men how to "seduce" women. I don't know of any similar organization that teaches women how to impress men with the same fervor. There's my proposal. I don't think it's hard to implement. Imagine if all the men even at one corporation or university decided to ban together. Laziness won't be a problem, becausenobody even has to do anything. It's time to change our distorted culture. All I'm suggesting is to promote equality. Is that such a bad thing? Job Interview

By Robert Danly Impress with your skills Even though the number of job opportunities has increased rapidly in recent years, the competition is also increasing at a furious pace thanks to the globalization. Globalization, the technological advancements and especially the internet make it increasingly difficult to find your perfect job. Thats why winning the job interview is so important these days. Take the time to prepare yourself for your next job interview. Your qualifications and resume are merely a ticket to play in the job market. Next step Job Interview Battle: you have to fight really hard to land your perfect job. Find the factors that differentiate you from the crowd and think through some of your best success stories. Normally, a certain skill set will be the main differentiating factor. Starting from your resume up to the job interview process (both direct and telephonic interview) you should try to illustrate your skill set in the best possible manner. Use personal experiences and successes that demonstrate your skills. People have a tendancy to remember stories a lot better than they do cold hard facts. Normally you can divide your skills into three categories for the purposes of your job interview: - Technical skills - Management skills - Personal skills Technical job skills These are the mandatory skills which one should possess in order to qualify for a job. Normally these skills will be laid out in your resume. If the job interviewer has any questions, he/she will likely ask you in the job interview (that is, if your interviewer has had the time to review your resume) Get a feeling whether or not you think that these skills should be reiterated. Many of these skills are those that you acquired from your academic qualifications. You might want to commend your university for providing great insight into x,y,z This will highlight a special skill without you blatantly saying, Im an absolute genius at x,y,z! during your job interview. Management Job Skills Management skills are also mandatory but only for certain types of jobs which involve managing people or managing time. For all the other jobs, management skills are certainly great add-ons. Especially in the last few years, interviewers are giving importance to these skills as most projects involve managing a team or being an integral part of a team. Its a real plus to be able to illustrate any type of management ability during the job interview. Personal Job Skills These are the skills that show your attitude towards your work and life. These include time management skills, Personal life management skills, integrity, work ethic, family values and so on. Striking a good balance between your personal life and your professional life is a key factor for success on the job. Job Interviews are increasing lending more importance to these skills and character traits in recent times. So, to sum up the job interview skill set Start by identifying your strong skills in the technical, managerial and person realms. Then, think about how you will present your job skills personal experiences, successes on the job, university findings, etc. Position yourself as self confident (never arrogant), a team player and someone of morals and ethics. If you follow this roadmap, you are more than likely to ace your next job interview. Robert Danly

The Essence of Kaizen and Its Role in Operations

By Verena Veneeva The present article discusses the notion of kaizen and its role as the integral part of TQM philosophy. The major points of interests are the core of the kaizen philosophy and what can be learnt from it, implementation requirements and the importance of corporate culture as one of the most important determinant of successful integration of kaizen (Papers4you.com, 2006). According to Imai (1997) kaizen is the philosophy of incremental continuous improvement with involvement of everyone. At first glance everything is pretty clear and simple what you need to do is to improve the processes around to make things more efficient. However the first barrier which appear on the way to improvement are few questions: what to improve, why to improve, who shall improve, where to improve, how far to improve, far how much it will cost. All these questions are answered by kaizen. This philosophy stresses the high importance of working environment as the actual place of improvement and the source of information regarding improvement areas (Imai calls is gemba). Everything what creates wastes of resources time, emotions, financial resources, raw materials, unnecessary steps might be improved (muda elimination Imai (1997). The real life advantages of this approach were observed by Shigeo and Dillon (1989) with the case of Toyota Motor Corporation. The company sought to maximize the waste elimination and error-free production by introducing real time alert system on the operations level. This system allowed ground floor employees to stop the production line if problems occurred (Papers4you.com, 2006). The major message of Imai about kaizen is that continuous improvements cost nothing but might significantly improve the overall process. However, prior to rushing to improving found drawbacks an individual shall evaluate the consequences of change as well as the degree of its urgency and its usefulness for the work process. One of the main questions which arise is why various firms have not yet benefited from integrating kaizen. In practice, certain organisations restrain the capability of employees to amend the set operational procedures. The set organisational culture prevents ground floor employees from involvement in decision making what becomes one of the major obstacles. As the result people do not feel being involved or important and are not ready to seek the improvements. As the result the principle of kaizen involving everyone can not be matched. Various analysts warn against blind use of kaizen as the blueprint for an organisation to become competitive and successful. Thus, Peters (1997) and Hammer & Stanton (1996) claim that under certain conditions continuous improvement is useless, unless the whole process is radically changed. As Hammer & Stanton (1996) put it unless we change the outdated rules and the fundamental assumptions that underline operations, we are merely rearranging the deck chair on the Titanic References Hammer M. & Stanton S. Vaccinations: The Not So Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

By Paula Rothstein It is chilling to watch today's purported health experts stand up to parents of children suffering from neurological disorders, clearly triggered by vaccinations, as they inform them there is no reason to be concerned for the safety of their children. Regardless of the disturbing rise in neurological disorders such as autism, brain tumors, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), now believed to be a direct result of the use of the mercury based preservative, known as thimerosal used for nearly 20 years in many childhood vaccinations. I encourage you to seriously consider the idea that drugs are being introduced into society without adequate testing and we are, in fact, the industry's guinea pigs. I do indeed question these so-called experts on the issue of vaccinations and I am deeply troubled by the government's method of forcing immunizations on parents - these same vaccinations that have shown themselves to be unsafe time and again - by making it a necessity for acceptance into schools and daycare centers around the country. Of course, in most states there are religious and even philosophical exemptions in place and we can cling to these exemptions for as long as they persist. The experts would have you believe that our advancement against infectious disease relates to the use of vaccinations. However, there is much more compelling evidence that our advancement does not come from the introduction of vaccines but instead from improved public health resulting from cleaner water, more effective sewage disposal, and less crowded living conditions. There is also reason to believe that the diseases our children are vaccinated against persist, however, it is by great trickery we are led to believe that it is the unvaccinated who are contracting these diseases when it is often the vaccinated. Statistics are delicate and often misused. I look for motivation to bend the evidence when considering a statistic and if great profit is at the heart of a number and the number flies in the face of logic, I consider it to be a lie. The pharmaceutical drug companies have more motivation to lie than any other industry. Profit - and a lot of it - is at stake here. Vaccines have their place as an emergency medical treatment when epidemics rage out of control. However, it could be argued that epidemics rage today BECAUSE we have weakened the immune system by frequent inoculations containing a whole slew of toxic chemicals. Before I continue, I would like to point out that I am not entirely against immunizations, although I would argue against the use of so many immunizations and given at far too young an age - I am against the pharmaceutical drug companies reckless use of dangerous preservatives and blatant disregard for the hazard these materials may pose to the health of small children. I do not trust these profit-mongering companies and will not fall victim to their careless shortcomings by participating in their vaccination programs. Vaccines are not always safe nor effective and I would like to provide you with a few key examples: The Lancet reported in 1980 that a vaccine trial in India, involving approximately 260,000 people discovered that more cases of tuberculosis had occurred in people vaccinated against TB than among the unvaccinated. The Journal of the American Medical Association published an article on measles in 1990 revealing that although more than 95% of school-aged children in the U.S. are vaccinated against measles, large measles outbreaks continue to occur in schools with the most cases in this setting to occur among previously vaccinated children. In a 1994 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine it was reported that at least 80% of children under the age of five who came down with whooping cough had been vaccinated against whooping cough. Between the years of 1990 to 1993 the FDA counted 54,072 adverse reactions to vaccinations. The agency also admitted this total represented only about 10% of actual adverse reactions because most physicians were reluctant to report the problems. Many vaccination programs are being implemented without thorough testing of safety, particularly with regards to the manner in which vaccines can alter the immune system and central nervous system. The best example of the carelessness of an industry run amok is the use of thimerosal as a preservative in vaccines for more than 15 years, now believed to be responsible for the tremendous increase in cases of autism and ADHD. If you would like to learn more, I encourage you to read the article Deadly Immunity by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. revealing the government's cover-up of the mercury link to autism, a mistake that cost numerous children their health. Dr. Paula Baille-Hamilton, the British toxins and vaccines expert, had the following to say on the issue of vaccines: "Few people realize that when they are getting a vaccine, not only are they getting a dose of the named antigen or disease, they're getting vaccinated against, such as diptheria, but also a mixture of known toxic, brain-damaging, and cancer-promoting chemicals thrown in as preservatives and "adjuvants," which help to elict an early, high, and long-lasting immune response. "Ever since mass vaccinations of infants began in the twentieth century, reports of serious brain, cardiovascular, metabolic, and other injuries started filling pages of medical journals. Reports from several countries show that vaccinated children, in addition to having a lower IQ, also have a higher incidence of behavioral problems, asthma, and diabetes than unvaccinated children." Even the former chief vaccine control officer for the FDA, J. Anthony Morris, stated in response to the reports of problems associated with vaccines, "There is a great deal of evidence to prove that immunization of children does more harm than good." The procedure of inoculation is rarely questioned and should be. When one is introduced to a virus or bacteria, it enters through the nose or mouth, triggering a natural immune response. The process of vaccination bypasses the first line of defense and is instead directly introduced into the bloodstream. Vaccines injected into babies do not in any way resemble an inhaled or swallowed germ because they are changed, attenuated, and injected as multi-antigens into the body. As a result, by-passing of the Th1 branch of the immune system can cause over-stimulation of the Th2 branch, teaching the body to be in a chronically reactive mode. Individuals who have allergies, asthma and auto-immune disease have a Th2-skewed immune system. Highly toxic substances such as mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, MSG, sulfites, and ethylene glycol (antifreeze) along with various animal and bird products are commonly used in the manufacturing of vaccines. The use of tissue from other species will always carry a risk of contamination. Even in the 1950s, the use of monkey kidney cells in the polio vaccine were found to be contaminated by a cancer-causing monkey virus known as SV40. Each one of these additives has been linked to disorders ranging from brain and nerve damage to autism and ADHD. These additives challenge immature immune systems and young metabolisms to process synthetic chemicals. Ultimately, the toxins are carried off by the liver to accumulate in organs and tissues. I do strongly advise against the Hepatitis B shot given within the first 48 hours after birth unless, of course, the mother has the disease. The central nervous system of a newborn infant is particularly sensitive to toxic influences. There are cases of autism believed to be triggered by this one shot. There are also cases of death believed to be related to this one shot. If it were given later in life, after the immune system has matured, it would not be as much of a problem. However, why would this vaccine be given to anyone not at risk? Hepatitis B is a rare, blood-transmitted disease. The incidence of hepatitis B in the 0 to 1 age group has been observed to be just 0.001 percent. Known complications arising from this one shot far exceed the number at risk! If you feel you must go along with all shots recommended by your physician, I encourage you to at least postpone the time of vaccination and do not allow your newborn to receive this potentially life-threatening shot. My sister recently gave birth three weeks prematurely to a five pound baby girl. The hospital was fully prepared to give this premature baby the Hepatitis B shot! Fortunately, I had already advised my sister against this vaccination months in advance. My point is that you should not expect the medical profession to make thoughtful decisions on these matters. For the most part, they are doing the bidding of pharmaceutical drug companies who are not overly concerned with our well-being. The most important thing you can do for your health is to improve your immune system so that it will remain strong against attack by an infectious organism. To that end there is a powerful product capable of providing the body with exceptional support against viruses and bacteria, manufactured by 4Life Company, called Transfer Factor. In fact, 4Life Transfer Factor products are featured in the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Physicians' Desk Reference For Nonprescription Drugs and Dietary Supplements, the standard supplement guide for physicians that can be found in physician offices, hospitals, and pharmacies throughout the United States. Transfer Factor implements a sophisticated system of teaching the immune system to recognize and destroy infectious organisms. It makes one wonder why we use vaccinations when there is a natural product capable of providing exceptional support to the immune system. I suppose it is because people like to believe a one-time shot will take care of a life-time of vigilance. However, as more and more vaccines continue to be introduced to address numerous possible infections it becomes increasingly important to find a way to enhance the immune system rather than imagine we can keep up with the ever increasing number of potential diseases. If you are a parent who has done the bidding thus far of western medicine, without question taking your child to his or her wellness visits assuming vaccinations are not only safe but necessary, I would like you to know you have a choice and one that should be informed. Paula Rothstein has been involved in the natural health industry for over 10 years with a specific emphasis on promoting products and introducing lifestyle changes which address chronic diseases relating to high levels of toxicity.
